Our Wood to Energy Recycling Program takes clean tree wood and lumber from the public at no cost, and turns it into electricity. Here’s what to bring and how the yard works.
What we accept
Every load is inspected. Any unacceptable material and the whole load is turned away. We can’t sort it for you.
Bring these
- Tree limbs and logs
- Chipped tree wood
- Pallets and crates
- Logging slash
- Clean scrap lumber
- Clean plywood
- Clean particle board
Wood must be unpainted and untreated.
Not these
- Painted or treated wood
- Stumps and roots
- Yard waste, leaves, grass clippings
- Pine needles
- Shrubs and bushes
- Oleander, manzanita, juniper, crape myrtle
- Bamboo, palm fronds, vines
- Shakes and shingles
- Laminated wood
- Cardboard
- Dirt, soil, and rocks
…and anything else that isn’t tree wood or clean lumber.
When you arrive
- Use the public gate. Never the truck gate.
- Stop at the stop sign and wait. An attendant has to be there before anything is unloaded.
- Let the attendant inspect your load. They’ll tell you whether it’s accepted and where to unload.
- Unload where you’re directed, at least 10 feet from anyone else.

Yard rules
The yard is a working fuel yard with heavy equipment and a high fire danger. These rules keep everyone safe, and keep this service free.

- Use the public gate. Never the truck gate.
- Pull up to the stop sign and wait. An attendant inspects every load before you unload.
- Any load with unacceptable material is turned away. We can’t sort it for you.
- Keep to 5 MPH. Heavy equipment and trucks always have the right of way.
- Stay at least 10 feet from anyone else who is unloading.
- Wear sturdy footwear. Customers in sandals won’t be allowed to unload. Gloves are a good idea.
- Children under 14 stay inside the vehicle. No pets.
- No smoking and no gas-powered tools: fire danger in the yard is extremely high.
- No climbing on vehicles or trailers, no tie-off pulls, and no unhitching trailers.
- Don’t take anything home. Salvaging isn’t allowed.

Hauling fuel commercially?
Contractors and haulers delivering fuel use the truck gate and the commercial schedule. Drivers need to read our Safety Rules Book before they arrive.
